Self-Selected Sliding Scale Rates for Schools

All schools have different financial circumstances.

I trust you to choose the sliding scale rate that works best for your school.‍

Let’s take one tiny step towards a more equitable and compassionate future together…

Why do you offer self-selected sliding scale rates?

For a few reasons:

— After acquiring a chronic health condition, I am uncomfortable charging my full rates because my health does not always allow me to be quite as reliable as I would wish. While I have not had to cancel often, it eases my stress to know that my reduced rates reflect my transparency about my health.

— Our family lives simply on a very modest income. We know what it is like to encounter hard times. We have encountered generosity and kindness over the years, and we believe in paying that forward.

— I am passionate about serving schools that serve students and families with less access to resources. Oftentimes, these schools also have less access to resources. I recognize that this makes it that much harder for dedicated teachers to support their students, and it perpetuates inequity.

— I believe that most human beings live with integrity and compassion. We all have countless opportunities to lift one another up. This is one doable step that I can take. ‍

  • Plan #1 (Baseline Rates)

$150/hour for collaborative planning, instructional coaching, and student support.

  • Plan #2

$95/hour for collaborative planning, instructional coaching, and student support.

If your school is considering the sliding scale, I invite you to reflect on the following:

  • Does our school serve a higher percentage of students who access free and/or reduced lunch (at least 2/3 of the student population)?

  • Would paying the full rate require giving up necessities for our students, teachers, and families, or is it possible to shift non-essential costs to prioritize teacher and/or student supports?

  • Has our school applied for funding, such as grants or other fundraising efforts, to prioritize equity in student learning across all marginalized identity markers?

  • How much does our school value creating a safe space of belonging where ALL students thrive as learners, including neurodivergent students? Does our school budget reflect these values, or do we often allocate our “leftovers” to supporting neurodivergent students?

You can call it the “golden rule”, the foundation of a strong community, or just being the best human you can be… with self-selecting sliding scale rates, you have the opportunity and the responsibility to balance the needs of your school with the needs of our family.
