Collaborative Planning, Instructional Coaching & Student Support FAQs

Do you provide professional development for whole schools or districts?

Possibly. I have provided effective large-group professional development for many schools over the years. My passion has become working with teachers individually or in small groups. I love the personal connection and engagement that comes from this dynamic. However, I am also open to ideas if there is a large group presentation you would like me to facilitate. Feel free to reach out, and we can talk more.

Do we need family permission for student observations?

I believe that transparency with families builds trust. I encourage schools to share with families about observations, and I am happy to share a template for communicating with families in a clear and positive way. However, parent permission is generally not required for whole-class observations and general feedback. If I am coming to observe a specific student, then I require written permission and ideally a collaborative conversation with the school and family to set up hopes and expectations for the observation.

Can your teacher or student support be individualized based on the philosophy of our school?

Absolutely. I LOVE learning about different approaches to education, and I think my work with educators is most effective when we design our approach based on the mission of your school. I have experience working in and/or learning about preK — high school public, private and non-profit: progressive schools, traditional schools, religious schools (Catholic, Episcopal, Jewish), expeditionary schools, microschools, outdoor schools, Waldorf, Montessori, Reggio, charter, inclusion models, special education classrooms, schools designed for neurodivergent learners, schools for highly gifted students, virtual schools, and homeschool co-ops. If your schools philosphy is not listed here, I will educate myself before our time together and welcome any resources you can share with me.

Does our school building need to be accessible?

Yes. I currently use a mobility scooter due to a chronic health condition. I am unable to provide on-site collaborative planning, instructional coaching, or student support for schools that do not have an accessible campus.
