ADHD stands for attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder. It is a pretty misleading name. People who meet the criteria for an ADHD diagnosis usually do not have a deficit of attention; they have an abundance of attention and are hard-wired with an “interest-based” nervous system. This means they may have access to extraordinary focus with high-interest topics/tasks, but struggle to harness and sustain focus with “on-demand” tasks that have been determined by other people.
